My Story: Jillian Kane, LCSW

I am a person who feels things deeply, which I refer to as my superpower. It has been both a strength, allowing me to pick up on details that others may miss, and a weakness, sometimes letting my emotions control me. It was not until I found DBT that I learned to control my superpower, leading me to build a life worth living. I became a DBT therapist so I could help others build a life worth living.

Entering the DBT community as a therapist, I was met with acceptance, skepticism, and rejection. I quickly learned that I need to be cautious about what I disclose about my history and whom I share it with. This left me often feeling isolated, even when surrounded by my team and the DBT community.

I have chosen to create this website because there is an important place in the DBT community for DBT therapists who have been through DBT themselves. I believe we should not need to hide our experiences; instead, we should use them to help our colleagues and find support from our team.

Let's destigmatize our own community to better help our clients!
